The True Sabbath Rest
“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.” For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them. Then…. “Although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way…and God rested on the seventh day (Yom) from all His works and again in this place…”they shall not enter My rest” “Since it remains therefore, that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day….saying in David….TODAY…to day if you hear His voice. Then….“for it Joshua had given them rest (when the Hebrews entered the promised land) then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. There remains, therefore, a rest for the people of God. For he who has entered His rest has himself ceased from his works as God did from His.
What are we to make of this verse? We must see this Old Testament as a real story in history, but as a lesson to ourselves
First of all the Old Testament people had the gospel preached to them just as we have had to us, but they had failed to enter God’s rest. We are warned by their example of this potential occurring to ourselves.
It must first of all be noticed that the recognition called for concerning the Sabbath day is not an earthly day of rest, but that the rest was a heavenly day “age” of rest. God rested on the 7th yom/age. This already suggests that the Sabbath is a period/age rather than “a 24 hour day. We also know that there will come “a new heavens” and “a new earth,” when God starts the Alpha Omega cycle over and a new universe is created. A new week of ages ( Yoms) will commence again, and begin the cycle all over. So, the Sabbath in the heavens is to be remembered because of the capacity and availability to tie into God’s Sabbath/ vib during this particular Yom/age. But it is more than a mere remembrance for the Sabbat rest is at hand
Therefore to think of the Sabbath as a mere 24 hr day is to not know the Sabbath rest which is an ongoing duration of time/yom that is not to be limited to a day. Those who hold to a religious dogma of “a day” do not know what the Bible teaches and are those that fail to enter His rest. That is why the scripture above teaches TODAY.
And most importantly it teaches TODAY in relation to hearing His voice/vib. Today (the Sabbath day) if you hear His voice/vib (not voices in your head)….The Sabbath is connected to hearing the voice of God (also called a quickening). ..You can go to church all you want and any day you wish, but if you do not hear His voice you are not entering His rest, which is the Sabbath.
Then within that context it says…
The “Word” of God…(this is the word “Rhema” the individual word(s) to you and me, not to be confused with the “Logos,” which is the entire collection of God’s word) is quick and sharp piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intent of the heart.
The issue of the Sabbath is a moment by moment rest not confined to one day a week, but Today or Everyday, but the reality and acid test of that rest, if we are entering into it is, are we hearing the “Rhema” of God. Those who have been in defined religions, Christians included, may know a basket of the Logos, but they can still be failing to enter His rest, because it is something we must strive to enter into daily.
When we strive in the flesh to do this or that whatever it may be, we are not enjoying the Sabbath rest where we cease from our own labor. This isn’t to say you do nothing and sit on you butt, but there is a “rhythm of the Spirit” that transcends the flesh approach and the human way of doing things. Are we functioning in the motions of the flesh or are we learning to walk in “the Spirit.” People today are striving in the flesh and do not know the Spirit. To walk in the Spirit is the sign of the true sons of God. Let us cease from our own works and walk in the Sabbath rest for that rest is an abiding relationship with God through the Holy Spirit.
For Christ is the Sabbath.
