Strive to Rest: The Sabbath
Now, in keeping and that we have established that the Sabbath is not a specific day, such as Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, as the religions of the world assert, it is important to discuss the age old confusions that continue to deceive the masses and blind the world from a true understanding of the real Sabbath. So the good news is that you have not broken the Sabbath by not attending the mosque, synagogue or local church on their alleged Sabbath day. Firstly, much of the confusion comes as we have noted from the word day in Genesis which should be rendered yom, or age, but also again as we have noted from the terms morning and evening which creates the mind picture of a twenty-four hour day. But the issue that has disoriented our view is the words that have been changed by the translators that have created erroneous mind picture. So, we must be cognoscente of the fact that the original language of the scriptures has undergone significant alterations. These words we find as we begin in the book of Genesis create images that form theologies. But if the words that the modernist (translators) use to describe such events, as we find in Genesis and throughout the Old and New Testaments, do not portray and accurately express the true meaning of what was intended then wrong mind pictures, set up mind circuit bondages, and all kinds of confusions ensue. Why then have the translators led us astray? It is at moments like these you can really get angry and feel betrayed. Were translators being maliciously evil? The answer is no. Then why and what happened? After all can’t God keep an accurate record of His Word? The problem is not with God but with His messengers on earth. Look at the kind of people God used to bring His knowledge to the world. Moses who wrote the first five books was a murderer. Abraham was a liar, King David a murderer and adulterer. Then the Apostle Paul a murderer. The simple fact is God uses imperfect men to express His Word. So, the Word (scripture) comes into the world filtered through imperfect vessels. So also is the problem with the translators of the modern versions. They are doing the best they can with what they have to work with. There is no “Spirit” ethic as though the Holy Spirit is channeled directly without being filtered through human impeditions. “We, even as they see through a glass darkly, and that is because even though men wrote through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit they still see through a glass darkly even as we all do. So trying to interpret is affected by time, environment, tradition, etymological changes in words and the prevailing languages where these men lived. All these factors and more affect the modern translations. That is why we must not just read the scriptures and listen to teachers we must also study ourselves and not rely solely on traditional doctrines and teachings of men no matter how learned they be. If we merely read and not study then all we do is reinforce traditional deeply entrenched ideas, and never question whether we are knowing the truth about whatever we seek. Truth seekers will always ask questions (not attackingly) not only anything that seems new, but also the old. The Kingdom of Heaven is within
